What the Six-Week Sleep Study Found

Researchers recruited healthy adults who were already getting adequate sleep and randomly assigned some of them to shorten their nightly sleep by roughly an hour and 20 minutes, while a control group kept their normal sleep schedule. The restriction wasn’t extreme by real-world standards. By the end of six weeks, the sleep-restricted group had gained about one pound on average, while the control group’s weight stayed essentially flat.
